Gynaecomastia is often the result of hormonal imbalance, and can be corrected through male breast reduction surgery.
Men of all ages enquire about male breast reduction surgery. It is known to cause emotional discomfort and often leads to men refraining from physical activities or even developing intimacy in order to hide their condition.
The Crown Clinic operates a full-service cosmetic surgery clinic – ICCM, International Centre for Cosmetic Medicine – we offer a comprehensive suite of cosmetic treatment options to make sure you have the body and chest shape you desire. You can view all our cosmetic surgery options at ICCM
Through male breast reduction surgery, we are able to improve the shape and form of your chest, help reduce pain and discomfort, and do it all with minimal post-operative recovery time. Our gynaecomastia surgery works to reduce the overall size of your male breasts and improve the contour and outline of your chest area.
What can the treatment be used for?
Although hormone balance is often the most common cause, excess breast tissue in men can be caused by a variety of factors. These include:
- certain medications
Surgery is often a good option for men who suffer from swelling in the breast tissue and who have tried other treatments without success. If you are considering the procedure, we recommend that you are in overall good health, are a non-smoker and are at a healthy and stable weight.
If your gynaecomastia is the result of prescription medication or other drugs, for example steroids, you will need to be fully free from these and maintain a stable weight range to ensure the results of your surgery are long-lasting.
How does the gynaecomastia procedure work?
During your initial consultations, you will undergo a physical examination in order to evaluate your breast tissue properly, and assess whether you are a suitable candidate. In certain cases, we may need to perform additional tests to confirm the cause of the excess breast tissue. For example, it is common for patients to undergo an ultrasound assessment.
Male breast reduction treatment can also mean a number of different things. The main surgical options include liposuction, in which the fatty breast tissue is removed; or mastectomy, a surgery in which an excision is made, and the breast gland tissue is removed. It is also common for these surgical procedures to be done in combination with one another. Every patient is unique, and the choice of treatment will depend on the results of the initial consultation.
A referral for an ultrasound test will be issued and a second consultation may be needed pending the results of this examination.
For liposuction treatment, your surgeon will insert a narrow tube through an incision, and the fat is suctioned out of the body. If you require both glandular breast tissue and excess skin need to be removed, excision techniques will be used.
What should I expect at the consultation?
Abnormal male breast size should be treated seriously. If you are concerned it may be gynecomastia, we recommend you come in for a consultation as soon as possible. At your first one-on-one consultation, we will assess the physical and emotional effects of excess breast tissue with you, as well as discuss your aesthetic goals and address any questions or concerns you may have. A referral for an ultrasound will be issued and a second consultation may be scheduled.
How long does recovery take?
Immediately after your surgery, any of the small incisions made during the procedure will be dressed, and you will need to wear a specialised surgical garment. This is used to minimise swelling and provide your body with support as it heals. You may also require a certain number of small tubes placed under the skin at first to drain any excess fluid or blood that persists in the area.
Your surgeon will provide you with detailed instructions on how best to take care of your wounds, including medication instructions if you need them for pain relief. You will also be required to schedule a follow-up appointment to ensure your recovery process is on track.
While total recovery time can vary from patient to patient, in general, patients who’ve undergone liposuction male breast reduction surgery have a recovery time of only a few days, while excision surgery recovery can take up to two weeks.
What kind of results can I expect?
Most patients are able to see the results of their treatment immediately after the procedure, even more so once the swelling goes down. However, it may take up to six months to see the full effects of the procedure. Overall, you will have a flatter, firmer chest area. There may be a small amount of scarring, however, it will likely fade over time and your surgeon will conceal them as much as possible by using the natural contours of the body.
How much does gynecomastia treatment cost?
Treatment costs are from $4990.00.
