What is Hair Loss Transplant
Hair loss can start from as early as the 20’s & 30’s . As people age this can get progressively worse, eventually resulting in severe balding areas or total baldness. There are a few different factors that influence hair loss, but in most cases it can be prevented with the right treatment.
Some may say that losing your hair over time is to be expected and part of life, but even when expected, there can be enormous psychological effects that plague a person with this condition. Often a person’s morale, self-confidence, and mental as well as emotional wellness decline. This can in turn impact personal relationships, cause anti-social behaviour, and put a strain on work life and career goals.
At Crown Clinic Melbourne, we understand what our patients go through both physically and mentally. We offer individualised treatment plans to help combat this condition, restore confidence and improve quality of life.

Types of hair loss transplant treatments available at our Melbourne clinic
At Crown Clinic we offer modern aesthetic medicine, using the latest and most advanced procedures and equipment. We specialise in the Follicular Unit Extraction or FUE method for hair restoration surgery. We recommend this due to its many benefits.
FUE – Follicular Unit Extraction
The Follicular Unit Extraction technique is done by taking individual grafts containing hair bearing follicles from the back of your head and moving them to another part of your scalp where the hair is needed.
FUE has become more popular than the follicular unit transplantation (FUT) procedure, which can leave behind visible scarring. In FUE, micro punches are used to extract single follicles and relocate them, leaving little to no signs of extraction.
The benefits of FUE over other hair loss surgeries:
- Less scarring
- Faster healing time
- Safe and effective
- Permanent results
- Minimally invasive
- Virtually painless
- Completely natural looking
Hair loss transplant available at our Melbourne clinic
Our range of hair restoration procedures are used to treat several types of hair loss conditions. Our most popular procedure, the FUE hair transplant involves moving hair-bearing follicles (grafts) from the back or sides of the head, referred to as the donor area. These grafts are then planted into the balding areas, usually along the hairline, temples, top of the scalp, or at the crown of the head.
Things You Need to Know
Before Undergoing FUE Hair Transplant
How hair loss surgery works
Knowing how the procedure works is important when deciding if this procedure is right for you. Read more about the surgery so you can make an informed decision. After reading and you are confident this procedure is for you, please contact our Melbourne clinic for your free consultation.
Before the surgery
Prior to the procedure, it is important to stop taking any blood thinning and anti-inflammatory medication. It is also recommended that alcohol and smoking be avoided at least a week before the surgery.
On the day of the procedure
The procedure is performed under a local anaesthetic to make you as comfortable as possible. You should feel little to no pain during the procedure. The “grafts” are then harvested from the donor area at the back of the head. Each graft is then prepared and transplanted to the thinning or balding area. The new hairs are implanted at the correct angle to mimic the natural direction of your hair.
Post Procedure
You will be required to sleep elevated on several pillows or in a recliner chair for the first few nights as this will help reduce swelling. It is important to avoid strenuous physical activity during the first few weeks to prevent elevated blood pressure which can cause damage or loss of grafts. Avoid direct sun exposure to the scalp for the first two weeks.
A few days off of work will be necessary to allow for recovery. Swelling may be visible for up to two weeks whilst healing.
Recovery Time
The recovery period for hair transplant surgery is about 2 weeks. There are no stitches and healing is quick. However, it can take up to two weeks for the redness and the tiny scabs to heal completely.
You will start seeing results within three to four months.
How to Maintain the Results
To maintain results it will be important to properly take care of the transplanted hair. It is recommended that you closely follow the post-op recommendations to ensure optimal healing takes place. Make sure to attend all follow-up appointments.
